The Hound Dog Ramblers

The Hound Dog Ramblers are a new band based in Moncton and Amherst focused on reviving rarely heard bluegrass treasures by classic bluegrass artists such as Delia Bell, Larry Sparks, Flatt & Scruggs, Jim & Jesse, Johnson Mountain Boys, and Hazel Dickens. Ivan Rosenberg (Dobro, vocals) has released eight solo CDs and appeared on dozens of albums with the likes of Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, John Reischman, The Foggy Hogtown Boys, Chris Coole, Raffi, David Francey, and Chris Stuart & Backcountry. His original music has appeared in over 400 television episodes & films including The Daily Show and Oprah. Ivan earned an IBMA Award for co-writing the 2009 Song of the Year, played on the Jerry Doulgas–produced CD Southern Filibuster: A Tribute to Tut Taylor, and performed in recent years with Chris Coole, Chris Jones, Allison Lupton Band, Shane Douthwright & the Virtuosos, and many more.

Kristin Cavoukian (guitar, vocals) has been singing and playing bluegrass music since her teens. She performed across Canada with bluegrass/old time duo The Saturday Saints, played weekly shows for 10 years straight with Toronto-based bluegrass band Houndstooth, and has toured with children’s troubadour Raffi. Kristin can be heard on recordings by Raffi, The Saturday Saints, Chris Coole, Annie Lou, Dan Mock, Quique Escamilla, and Ivan Rosenberg among others.

Kyle Legere (banjo, guitar, and vocals) has performed with Blue Horizon, Mountain Rush, Janet McGarry & Wildwood, Acoustic Heart Strings, The Douthwrights, and Highway Train. These days Kyle plays with Cape Breton-based Crowdis Bridge, leads music in his church in Amherst, and performs traditional Scottish and Irish music with Drowsy Maggie. He can also be seen playing an occasional duo show with fiddler Matt Hayes. Kyle has recorded with Janet McGarry, Crowdis Bridge, and Blue Horizon.

Ron Girouard (mandolin, vocals) started playing bluegrass in his early teens and has been active in the Maritime Bluegrass community for over 20 years. He has played and recorded with bands such as True Blue, Caledonia Drive, Acoustic Heartstrings, and Highway Train. He has also shared his musical talents on Alan Jeffries’ ECMA Award-winning roots album “Coffee ’til Midnight,” Kyle Kirkpatrick’s bluegrass Dobro album “St Clarens Ramble,” and several bluegrass songs with Ivan Rosenberg.

Joe Potter (upright bass) earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in jazz double bass performance from Saint Francis Xavier University. He has performed with bluegrass band New Vintage Experience, roots musician Gordie MacKeeman, singer-songwriter Kylie Fox, and folk rockers Christina Martin & Dale Murray—and he currently plays regularly with renowned songwriter Chris Brown in the Christopher Brown Trio. Joe has recorded with New Vintage Experience, Kylie Fox, and Christopher Brown Trio among others.
